Description

Hope this isn't some form of heinous cultural appropriation... I used to watch this show when I was little (watching the new Sailormoon Crystal now -- God it's bad but I can't stop watching). These were my first real superheroes, but I'm afraid to say it probably had some effect on the lack of diversity in my early drawings. The ethnicities of the characters in anime have always confused me a bit to be honest. (FULLY acknowledging that this is my own cultural ignorance.) Like, I know the characters are technically Japanese (usually) because they live in Japan (more or less), but their facial features are normally more indicative of Caucasians. Needless to say I had very little comprehension of this duality when I was little. The five-year-old me just saw a bunch of awesome White women kicking ass -- a bunch of women who didn't look anything like me. (This is NOT an assault on anime or Japanese culture, I'm merely describing what my younger self thought.) 

So I drew this to say we ALL kick ass, no matter our race. I tried to include all the main ethnic groups I could think of, though based on the anime style it's drawn in I had to result to a few cultural stereotypes to indicate who's who. Sorry about that... I was gonna do more in the background, but I've been working on this for about 7 hours now and I'm bored.
